The Contemplative Traditions Series

A Year of Teachers from the World's Great Wisdom Paths

Karmê Chöling is honored to present the Contemplative Traditions Series, a new series of weekends with teachers from the world's great contemplative traditions.

Throughout 2027, we'll welcome respected teachers from Sufism, Hinduism and other paths to share their teachings and practices in person. Each weekend is a chance to step inside a living tradition: to hear its stories, take part in its practices and spend time with a teacher who has given their life to it.

Rooted in Honoring Wisdom

Since its founding by Chögyam Trungpa Rinpoche in 1970, Karmê Chöling has drawn on two deep roots: the meditative depth of Tibetan Buddhism, and the Shambhala tradition of appreciating and honoring wisdom in all its forms. That second root has always pointed beyond our own walls. The great contemplative traditions each offer their own way into the same human questions: how to open the heart, how to see clearly and how to live with dignity and care.

The Contemplative Traditions Series brings that view to life. It's an invitation to learn from one another, to recognize what these paths share and to appreciate what makes each one distinct.

What to Expect

Each weekend is shaped by its teacher and tradition. You might encounter poetry, chanting, sacred story, silent practice or devotional ritual, alongside teachings and open conversation. Every program is open to everyone, whether you're new to contemplative practice or have followed a path for decades. No background in any tradition is required.

FAQ

What is the Contemplative Traditions Series?
A series of weekend programs at Karmê Chöling, each led by a teacher from a different contemplative tradition. Each weekend offers a direct encounter with that tradition's teachings and practices.

Do I need to attend every program in the series?
No. Each weekend stands on its own. Come to one, a few or all of them.

Do I need any background in these traditions, or in meditation?
No. Every program is open to newcomers and experienced practitioners alike. Curiosity and an open heart are all you need.

Is the series religious? Will I be asked to adopt any beliefs?
Each weekend draws on the teachings and practices of a particular tradition, but no one is asked to hold any belief or change their own path. Participants are invited to engage, explore and take what is meaningful to them.

I already follow a spiritual path. Is this for me?
Yes. Many people find that meeting another tradition deepens their understanding of their own. Practitioners of every path are warmly welcome.

Why does Karmê Chöling host teachers from other traditions?
Karmê Chöling has deep roots in both Tibetan Buddhism and the Shambhala tradition of appreciating and honoring wisdom in all its forms. Welcoming teachers from the world's great contemplative paths is a natural expression of that heritage.

How do I register?
Each program has its own page with dates, schedule, pricing and registration details. Programs will be added to this page as teachers are confirmed.
