The Roar of the Werma Retreat

The Warrior’s Heart of Sadness

Werma

When you feel sad and lonely or, for that matter, hassled by reality, sadness is the vanguard of bravery. The warrior should feel alone and lonely…. If you feel sad, you are more susceptible to seeing the blueness of an iris flower; you are more susceptible to seeing colorful butterflies; and you are more sympathetic to someone who is having a terrible headache. So, sadness and joy put together are the fundamental notion of basic goodness.

Chogyam Trungpa Rinpoche

In the Shambhala warrior tradition, the foundation of opening our hearts to the remarkable world around us is rooted in our meditative disciplines: establishing our Authentic Presence, deepening our wisdom and opening further to a world in need of help.

During this Werma sadhana retreat we will do just that:

  • Daily practice of Werma sadhana, Ashe’ stroke practice and sitting meditation
  • Dharma talks on the practice of the Werma Sadhana and how to express its wisdom in our lives
  • One-on-one meditation instruction upon request
  • Participant- led group discussion
  • Celebration and community engagement
