Restoring Trust

Practices for Leaders & Communities

Restoring Trust

Restoring Trust Practices has its roots in indigenous cultures. Circles were used to address conflict and to build trust within the community. The circle illustrated a way of equalizing power and allowing everyone's voice to be heard. Both the harmed party and those who caused the harm came together to speak openly and genuinely about the injury or damage that had occurred and what could be done to heal from it. The process was owned by all involved.

In most of our modern Western court systems, schools, and workplaces, we have a process where those in power decide what kind of punishment is to be meted out to those responsible for causing harm. The harmed party is not always allowed to participate in deciding the outcome.

Using Restorative Practices

During this weekend program we will use meditation practice as a tool to settle our minds in order to contemplate the fundamental tenets of restorative practices.

Restorative practices offers a process where we develop the skills to work through conflict in order to be able to feel connected to our:

  • Families
  • School
  • Community at large
  • Friends
  • Workplace

The program will include small group explorations in a safe environment, as well as working with a partner to develop active listening; an important aspect of restoring relationships.
