Open Meditation Practice Sessions

Meditation Practice Sessions

Open to the public & free of charge

The Karmê Chöling Household's daily meditation practice sessions are open to the public every morning and evening, Monday through Friday. Each practice session is led by a member of the KCL Household.

Morning Pratice: Practice starts at 9:00am and ends at 10:15am Eastern Time. Please arrive by 8:45am to settle in and be on time to line up at the door.

Evening Practice: Practice starts at 5:30pm and ends at 6:30pm Eastern Time. Please arrive by 5:15pm to settle in and be on time to line up at the door.

We would love to have you join us in person! If you are new to Karmê Chöling, please contact us in advance at info@karmecholing.org so that we can arrange to have someone meet you at the door and show you the way to the meditation hall.


Regular weekday schedule:

Morning Sessions

  • 8:45am - Line-up for session
  • 9:00 - Morning Chants
  • 9:20 - Sitting Meditation
  • 9:45 - Walking Meditation
  • 9:50 - Sitting Meditation
  • 10:15 - End of session

Evening Sessions:

  • 5:15pm - Line up for session
  • 5:30 - Sitting Meditation
  • 5:50 - Tonglen Practice (10 minutes)
  • 6:10 - Protector & Closing Chants
  • 6:30 - End of session

These practices take place during the KCL Household Meditation Practice Session beginning at 5:30pm daily, except where noted otherwise.

Evening of the New Moon

Join the Karmê Chöling Staff in the Sadhana of Mahamudra during evening practice the day of the new moon. Written by Chogyam Trungpa Rinopche it works with overcoming the obstacles of modern day materialism. The sadhana takes most of the hour with an abbreviated list of closing chants at the end.

All-day nyinthun practice at Karme Choling Meditation Retreat Center, Vermont

Half-Day Meditation Retreats (Half-Nyinthüns)
Half-day meditation retreats are an opportunity to "just sit" and go deeper into your practice. Half-nyinthüns are appropriate for beginning meditators up to people who have meditated for many years.
9:00 am - 9:15am chanting
9:15am - 12:30 pm regular sitting practice

Join the St. Johnsbury community sangha and the Karmê Chöling Staff for a half day of sitting meditation practice.

  • Meditation instruction is available besides the regular sitting practice, at the beginning of the session. Please let us know you would like to meet with an meditation instructor when you register
  • We will alternate sitting and walking meditation frequently throughout the sessions
