Hemera Contemplative Fellowships

Contemplative Fellowships for Educators

Hemera’s Contemplative  Fellowships for Educators (CFE) program supports educators’ growth through contemplative practice in a residential meditation retreat setting, allowing individuals the opportunity to cultivate mindfulness, compassion, personal well-being, and professional efficacy, and, in turn, embody and apply these qualities to promote positive school cultures.

To qualify for a fellowship, applicants must be either:

  • Employed full-time in an approved role within a pre-K or K-12 school or school district setting
  • Actively enrolled in a master’s degree program in education

Fellowships cover some or all of the recipient’s program fees, meals and shared accommodations. There are two levels of funding support.

  • If you are new to meditation or have never attended a retreat longer than a weekend, you are eligible for 100% funding.
  • If you have already attended a meditation retreat for a week or more,  you are eligible for 50% or more need-based funding.

Please review our list of eligible programs and choose the program you wish to take before applying. There is a $5 application fee. Recipients may only be awarded one fellowship per year.

Tending Space Fellowship Program for Artists

Hemera’s Tending Space Fellowship Program for Artists was developed with the view that art has the capacity to infuse the experience of everyday life with awareness. The aim of the program is to nurture the creative practice of seeing things as they are, to cultivate that awareness, and to live and create from this insight.

To accomplish this, Hemera provides financial support for artists to experience the immersive, contemplative environment of a meditation retreat. Tending Space Fellowships are available for full-time artists with a sincere desire for the experiences of extended meditation practice to inform and influence their creative expression in the world. Up to 200 fellowships will be awarded annually on a first-come first-served basis.

To qualify for a fellowship, applicants must:

  • Be full-time artists—visual, performing artists, writers, and multi-disciplinary artists—whose professions directly relate to their artmaking practice
  • This can include artists who are also teachers (MFA, private lessons, etc.), artists working in galleries and museums, and others

The program is open to domestic and international applicants, as well as groups of artists.
