Discovering awareness starts in our first experience of form, our own body. You will experience the interface between imagination, memory, and physicality within the context of tango, increase your listening skills and express your intention. These explorations will help you to more accurately understand and interact in the leading and following roles in your daily activities and exchanges.
In class you will:
- Learn about the historical origins of Argentine Tango as a popular and community culture
- Witness and be part of this cultural form created by a group of people for the community
- Learn a method to develop attention in order to create intention in your body through movement and dance
- Transfer this intention to another person in order to sense a space to co-create movement together
- Explore the expression of rhythm and lyricism through your body
- Explore Leader and Follower roles as a cycle
The classes will include a combination of singular and partnered exercises, verbal and video presentation, and group discussion.
Suzann Duquette will collaborate during this program by introducing sitting meditation and selected body disciplines and exercises that compliment Tomas’ physical and contemplative approach to tango.
Please note: This is a movement workshop that will require physical contact with other people. However, to attend the class no partner is necessary and everyone will be experiencing the leader and follower roles. This program is for ALL levels of Tango experience.
If you do attend class with a partner, you will not be required to change partners.
