Working at Karmê Chöling provides an opportunity to experience the warrior/bodhisattva path of Shambhala Buddhism in the context of one of North America's oldest and most renowned practice centers. The essence of this path is to serve others while opening to the natural, awake quality of mind.
At Karmê Chöling, one has the opportunity to practice meditation, to study with other practitioners under the guidance of meditation instructors and senior students, and to serve others with the help of a rich community and a supervisor. The work, the study, and the practice are all a means to discover one's own awake quality, and a means to benefit others who come to Karmê Chöling to learn about this path.
It is our aspiration that by learning to live together in a supportive and caring way, in a place where dharma permeates the environment, we will connect with our own Buddha nature and be able to recognize that nature of basic goodness in others.
This recognition of basic goodness then becomes the inspiration for providing program staff and participants with the best possible environment for teaching and studying the dharma of Shambhala Buddhism, including the Buddhist teachings, Shambhala Training and Shambhala Arts.
